June 1, 2007 — IDG's CIO magazine has named Goodwin Procter as a recipient of the 2007 CIO 100. The 20th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).
Award recipients are selected based on growth innovation, imagination at work, top line growth resulting in profit maximization, productive work environment, and transparency in network integration. Goodwin Procter was honored for the development of iStaff, a web-based application that has revolutionized the firm’s staffing process. Since the launch of iStaff, the firm’s staffing information is centralized and easily accessible through an intuitive web-based interface, providing a scalable platform to support staffing needs as the firm continues its expansion.
“In 2005, anticipating an expansion in Goodwin Procter’s attorney and staff count, the firm leadership decided to invest in an integrated system to streamline the process of assigning client work to individual attorneys and other internal staff,” said Goodwin Procter Chief Information Officer Peter Lane. “ Our team developed iStaff to manage the process of allocating firm resources to meet the current needs of clients.”
Using iStaff, firm staffing requests are now entered into a common system, allowing information regarding current needs across the firm easily seen at a glance. The process of identifying attorneys for individual projects has also become much more efficient, as staffing managers are able to search the database for available candidates based on specific criteria such as current workload, specific skills or professional development considerations. With the click of a mouse, staffing managers can view attorney billing history, current client work, vacation calendars, or a detailed profile page for that attorney. Lane will accept the award from Goodwin Procter at the CIO 100 Awards Ceremony, August 21, held during the CIO 100 Symposium, in Carlsbad, CA.
CIO Magazine is produced by CXO Media, an award-winning business unit of International Data Group, which also produces CIO.com, CIO Executive Programs, CIO Custom Solutions Group and the CIO Executive Council. CIO primarily serves chief information officers and other IT leaders.
