Goodwin Procter Receives Law Technology Award

Web Tool Cited as “Most Innovative Use of Technology by a Law Firm”

BOSTON, Feb. 5, 2008 – Goodwin Procter LLP, a leading national law firm with 850 attorneys, announced that it had received the “Most Innovative Use of Technology by a Law Firm” award from Law Technology News. The firm was recognized for its iStaff technology, a web-based application that revolutionized the staffing process, at LTN’s fifth annual awards dinner, which honors law firm and vendor leadership in this rapidly growing field.

“As a result of Goodwin Procter’s national expansion, the firm’s management invested in an integrated system to streamline the process of assigning client work to individual attorneys and other internal staff,” said Peter F. Lane, chief information officer of Goodwin Procter. “Our team developed iStaff to manage the process of allocating firm resources to meet the current needs of clients.”

With the launch of iStaff, staffing information is centralized and easily accessible through an intuitive web-based interface. Firm staffing requests are now entered into a common system, allowing information regarding current needs across the firm to be easily seen at a glance. The process of identifying attorneys for individual projects has also become more efficient, as staffing managers are able to search the database for available candidates based on specific criteria such as current workload, specific skills or professional development considerations. With the click of a mouse, staffing managers can view attorney billing history, current client work, vacation calendars, or a detailed profile page for that attorney.

“Goodwin Procter is committed to developing the most cutting-edge tools to help our attorneys deliver superior results and service to our clients,” said Lane. “iStaff is another example of how the firm combines practical business experience with legal acumen to provide best in class counsel.”
