Goodwin Procter Creates Director of Professional Development & Training for Administrative Professionals

Jamie L. Krulewitz Named to New Position

BOSTON, July 15, 2008 – Goodwin Procter announced today that Jamie L. Krulewitz has been appointed Director of Professional Development & Training – Professional Staff. Resident in the firm’s New York office in Times Square, this newly created role is dedicated to the professional development and training of the firm’s administrative and secretarial staff.

Among law firms, Goodwin Procter is unique in establishing this directorship. The firm has grown rapidly, opening five offices in California since 2006, and a critical step in this nationwide expansion has been optimizing its organizational structure. As part of this key initiative, Krulewitz will devise and implement a cutting-edge program focused on the development, engagement and elevation of all levels of professional staff at Goodwin Procter.

“Goodwin Procter is committed to strong, strategic and significant investments in our people, and this new position will allow us to strengthen even further our efforts,” said Allison V. Friend, Chief Human Resources Officer. “Jamie’s talent and energy make her an ideal candidate to enhance our professionals’ capabilities as Goodwin Procter expands its Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. practices and continues to grow on the West Coast.”

“We are first to the table among law firms in establishing a director-level position focused exclusively on the development of non-legal staff," said Krulewitz, who has overseen the firm’s HR function in New York for years. “I look forward to building a platform that will serve our talented staff for many years to come.”

Goodwin Procter has an acclaimed professional development and training team, all of whom are former practicing attorneys, dedicated to the training and development of the firm’s lawyers. Among their recent endeavors, the team designed a “Transition to Leadership” program for mid-level associates, featuring prominent Harvard Business School faculty who use business school cases to build the leadership and project and team management skills of the firm’s associates. In addition to improving mentoring, feedback processes, and training courses by aligning them with a newly-developed competency model for attorneys, the firm’s professional development team has established an award-winning interactive staffing process that closely links attorney assignments to their professional development and helps to ensure optimal staffing of client matters across the firm. The firm also has developed a monthly speaker series for all attorneys and staff featuring prominent leaders in their field, such as a former CIA director, Pulitzer Prize-winning authors, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, and athletes. Goodwin Procter also offers an award-winning alumni website available to all associates that consists of a comprehensive career transition guide and job postings from alumni and clients.

Prior to this position, Krulewitz served as the Senior Human Resources Manager in Goodwin Procter’s New York office. In addition to these responsibilities, she also led the firm’s on boarding efforts.
