Goodwin Advises Emerson College on Development of New West Coast Campus

Goodwin Procter client Emerson College is underway on the construction of a 10-story building on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, which will provide housing, classrooms and training facilities for the Boston-based college’s West Coast campus. Goodwin Procter represented Emerson in the purchase of the 37,000 square foot parcel the facility is being constructed on and has continued to advise on development issues related to the project.

The facility, which was designed by Pritzker Prize winning architect Thom Mayne, is being built on a site that was formerly a parking lot for Tribune Studios on Sunset Boulevard and Gordon Street. Tribune Studios was purchased by Hudson Pacific Properties in 2008, which subsequently sold the lot to Emerson for $12 million. The building is expected to open in 2014.

Established in 1880 in Boston, MA, Emerson College offers an educational curriculum focused on communications and the arts. Jay Leno, Henry Winkler and Denis Leary are among the school’s notable alumni.
