Real Estate Industry Group Among Top M&A Advisers in 2016 with $26.4B Total Deal Value

Goodwin’s Real Estate Industry Group ranked second on the Top Real Estate M&A Advisers list for the first three quarters of 2016, advising on 12 deals between January 1 and August 31, 2016, with a total value of $26.4 billion, according to data from Dealogic.

In an article on the rankings, Law360 highlighted the firm’s representation of Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. in connection with its merger with Post Properties Inc., a deal that will create a company with an enterprise value of $17 billion, and the firm’s role in advising Empire State Realty Trust Inc. in connection with the sale of a 9.9 percent stake in the REIT to an affiliate of the Qatar Investment Authority for $622 million.

Other notable Goodwin real estate M&A transactions in 2016 include the team’s representation of UHC Acquisition Sub LLC – an entity that facilitated Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, GIC and The Scion Group LLC’s $1.4 billion purchase of University House Communities Group Inc. from InvenTrust Properties Corp., and its representation of Skanska AB on its $452 million sale of a Boston office and retail building to Union Investment Real Estate GmbH.
