John Aldock is a retired partner of Goodwin, an international law firm. He previously served as General Counsel of Goodwin and as the Chair of its District of Columbia office. Mr. Aldock was the chairman of the District of Columbia firm of Shea & Gardner prior to its combination with Goodwin in 2004. Mr. Aldock specialized in complex litigation, class actions and mass torts.  He received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, 1967 (cum laude) and his B.S. from Northwestern University, 1964. After receiving his law degree, Mr. Aldock clerked for U.S. District Judge Luther W. Youngdahl of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Following his judicial clerkship, Mr. Aldock served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1968 to 1971. Mr. Aldock has made presentations at numerous conferences sponsored by the Judicial Conference of the United States, the Federal Judicial Center, the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts, the American Bar Association, ALI-ABA, Defense Research Institute, and various law schools. Mr. Aldock was chair of the Advisory Committee on Rules of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia from 1973-2017. He is a member of the Panel of Distinguished Neutrals (Washington, D.C.) of the CPR Institute and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Aldock has been selected by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America as one of the country’s leading business litigation lawyers.
