Frank Bednarz is an attorney in the firm's Litigation Department, where he focuses on patent litigation in federal courts and before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Mr. Bednarz joined Goodwin in 2010.

Professional Experience

In 2013, Mr. Bednarz served as a Special Assistant District Attorney for Middlesex County, Massachusetts. In that capacity, Mr. Bednarz helped prosecute felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, which included trying jury and bench trials to final verdict and arguing dispositive and evidentiary motions.

While attending law school, Mr. Bednarz served as an intern to the Honorable Michael W. McConnell of the Tenth Circuit.

Prior to his work at Goodwin Procter, Mr. Bednarz worked as an attorney for the University of Chicago Exoneration Project, representing wrongfully convicted individuals. He helped write a post-conviction petition for Eric Caine in 2009. This petition eventually led to Mr. Caine’s release on March 17, 2011 after nearly 25 years of wrongful imprisonment.

Mr. Bednarz was also an intern attorney with the nonprofit Center for Class Action Fairness, where he represented class member objectors to unfair class action settlements. He successfully argued on behalf of an objector pro hac vice in the Central District of California. True v. Am. Honda Motor Co., 2010 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 23545 (C.D. Cal. Feb. 26, 2010).

Mr. Bednarz is a member of the Boston Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology, et al. v. Shire plc, et al. (D. Mass.). Represents MIT and Boston Children’s Medical Center, which are patent owners in a biotech infringement suit.
  • In re Certain Electronics Imaging Devices, ITC Investigation No. 337-TA-850. Represented respondent ZTE in patent infringement investigation involving mobile phones.
  • Teva Neuroscience, Inc., et al. v. Apotex Corp., et al., (D.N.J.). Represented Teva in patent infringement actions filed under the Hatch-Waxman Act against several defendants seeking approval to market a generic version of Teva’s drug Azilect®.
  • In re Certain Light-Emitting Diodes and Products Containing the Same, ITC Investigation Nos. 337-TA-784 and 337-TA-802. Represented OSRAM in offensive and defensive ITC investigations concerning LEDs.  Both settled after trials on the merits.
  • Abbott Products Inc., et al., v. Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. (D. Del.). Represented Teva in Hatch-Waxman litigation brought by Abbott in response to Teva seeking approval to market a generic version of Abbott’s drug AndroGel®, a topical testosterone gel.
