Co-Op Program

GO! Beyond at Goodwin

At Goodwin, our approach to the business of law is as important as how we approach the practice of law. From providing best-in-class legal counsel across key industries to offering services that extend beyond the court or boardroom, our lawyers, professional staff and co-ops make us a truly unprecedented firm. Spanning across 26 teams, our co-ops are a critical part of Goodwin’s success and gain valuable experience while forming connections that serve as a spring board into their future careers.

We invest in you. Embracing our firm’s innovative nature, we challenge our co-op students to think beyond standard workstreams and look into innovative solutions to the problems we face on an everyday basis. We offer extensive training to develop leadership and various skill sets, provide the ability to work across different teams, and encourage conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion in relation to learning and development opportunities.

You invest in yourself. Goodwin provides a stepping stone to build critical connections for your career, whether in the legal industry or not. As a co-op in our GO! Beyond program, you have the opportunity to attend monthly events and speaking engagements, join Goodwin’s co-op LinkedIn page to network with past and present co-ops, and apply for future career opportunities at the firm.

“My co-op experience has been truly rewarding. Working with the Court Procedures Team is the most amazing learning experiences I’ve had in college.”

Emily Yixuan Qiao, Court Procedures Co-op

Four Pillars of Focus

We strive to create an innovative and collaborative environment for all co-ops, centered around the four pillars of service, networking, professional development and peer bonding.

“I came in knowing absolutely nothing about law firms and can say that I have a firm grasp on how they operate now. Every member has had an interesting and varying career: some were practicing attorneys, one was a consultant, one was a musician for a while, another a teacher. Learning from people with diverse experiences, skillsets, and work styles has been extremely helpful to me as a young professional. My time at Goodwin has provided me the opportunity to grow into a more confident professional.”

Miranda Rodea, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Co-op

Interviewing@Goodwin

At Goodwin, we use an approach to interviews called Focused Interviewing. Focused Interviewing questions are behavioral questions that allow you to share your past experiences and how you reacted to certain situations. The questions we ask are tied directly to job-related competencies, like communication skills, project management or teamwork. We believe Focused Interviewing helps us to select the most qualified candidate for the job and for Goodwin.

We look forward to meeting you and learning more about you. Click on the videos below to hear advice from our lawyers and Global Operations team members on interviewing at Goodwin, and keep scrolling after the videos to get some tips on meeting with us virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Diversity, Equity + Inclusion

Goodwin is committed to promoting diversity in our law firm and in the legal profession. We are also committed to an inclusive environment in which each employee can excel and thrive. Diversity, Equity + Inclusion are core to our business and our values, and our Chairman-led Inclusion Advisory Committee ensures that we make our efforts in this area a top priority.

Pro Bono

Very often those who most need legal representation can least afford to pay for it. Whether it’s guidance on housing, immigration, criminal defense or small business development, free and reliable legal counsel can make real and lasting changes in people’s lives and livelihoods. That’s why pro bono work is one of the cornerstones of our firm.
