This may sound more like a start-up venture than an established law firm – but it’s a good description of Goodwin. We’re a top-tier firm with clients across the country and around the world. At Goodwin you’ll find a collaborative environment and people who take their work seriously.
Your career path at Goodwin may take you in any number of directions. Julia Lee, Associate, Los Angeles
As a judicial clerk, you have developed a unique perspective on the practice of law. At Goodwin we appreciate the skills and experience you bring to our firm. We offer a generous signing bonus for clerks who come to work with us – up to $50,000 for one-year federal judicial clerkships – and provide extensive training opportunities.
As a litigator here, you’ll do more than protect the interests of our business law clients. You will have opportunities to pursue additional cases that interest you, and to go after precedent-setting issues involving patent litigation, white collar crime, and products liability.
If you prefer business law, you’ll benefit from being at one of the nation’s leading firms in business law, with a cross-disciplinary approach to addressing our clients’ needs. The department is structured according to major practice areas, including core competency, strategic focus, and specialty practices.
JD / MBA
We appreciate the extra hard work involved in a dual graduate degree and are pleased to offer a signing bonus to first year JD/MBA associates who accept an offer with us. Whether you’re a JD/MBA, or still considering this option, we want you to know we think it’s a very smart business move.
An MBA program allows you to work collaboratively in teams and learn in an environment with people who aren’t lawyers. You’ll graduate with a better understanding of the intricacies between business and law.
With an MBA you are, of course, in a terrific position to practice business law. For JD/MBAs who go into business law, you’ll be well-supported here by people who appreciate your legal and business skills. You’ll have a number of different practice areas to choose from at any given time, including intellectual property, real estate, private equity, and others. We’ll provide you access to some of the most compelling and interesting work in business law.
JD/MBA’s who choose to become litigators will protect the interests of our business law clients – and much more. You will have opportunities to pursue cases that interest you, and to work on precedent-setting issues involving patent litigation, white collar crime, and products liability.
A good program gives you the chance to use what you know. A great program allows you to stretch beyond what you know. Add to that some amazing opportunities to learn more about yourself, your colleagues, and the world around you, and you have an unforgettable summer experience – one that provides a real-world perspective about daily life in our law firm.
Our Asia Track program is designed for summer associates who have a particular interest in pursuing a legal career in Asia. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required. The Asia Track summer program involves spending eight to ten weeks in one of our U.S. offices and two to three weeks in our Hong Kong office.
Goodwin is one of the nation’s leading law firms, with offices across the country. We’re also the only large firm you’ll find with a truly entrepreneurial approach to the practice of law. We expect excellence in our work and challenge ourselves to go beyond the traditional framework of a law firm.
At Goodwin you will explore a variety of compelling legal matters in a collegial atmosphere. You will also find time built into your schedule so you can take advantage of learning and professiona development programs designed to engage and inspire you.
Our Goodwin Diversity Fellowships offer financial awards to diverse students who work in public interest positions the summer after their first year of law school. Selected fellows are guaranteed a "straight-to-callback" interview with a Goodwin office of their choice in the interviewing season during their second year of law school. Fellows are also invited to participate in some of our summer associate program events during their summer at the public interest organization.

Diversity, Equity + Inclusion
Goodwin is committed to promoting diversity in our law firm and in the legal profession. We are also committed to an inclusive environment in which each employee can excel and thrive. Diversity, Equity + Inclusion are core to our business and our values, and our Chairman-led Inclusion Advisory Committee ensures that we make our efforts in this area a top priority.
Very often those who most need legal representation can least afford to pay for it. Whether it’s guidance on housing, immigration, criminal defense or small business development, free and reliable legal counsel can make real and lasting changes in people’s lives and livelihoods. That’s why pro bono work is one of the cornerstones of our firm.
