Webinar

Pandemic Preparedness for Employers

May 6, 2009 | 12:00 AM

Summary

On Wednesday, May 6, Goodwin Procter LLP presented a webinar entitled "Pandemic Preparedness for Employers."  Our virtual panel discussion provided both legal and medical guidance for addressing issues related to the Swine flu that has spread to the United States. While the scope and implications of this public health issue are still unfolding, employers are responding with human resources initiatives to reduce the risk of workplace exposure and ensure the continuity of business operations.

Dr. Dan McQuillen of Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA discussed possible scenarios associated with the flu virus and provided current advice on best practices to reduce the risk of workplace exposure. Goodwin Procter partners Brad Smith and Jennifer Merrigan Fay focused on practical approaches to accommodating legal issues, such as wage and hour requirements, medical privacy restrictions, and leave of absence laws when developing human resources responses to the threat of a pandemic.
