Summary

Over the past few years, the United States has shifted away from the criminalization of cannabis as it embraces one of the fastest-growing industries in the country today. While the legal cannabis industry continues to expand its wealth and influence, those who have been unjustly impacted from the war on drugs remain incarcerated on cannabis offenses that are now legal in most states.

The Last Prisoner Project (LPP) works to address these disparities in sentencing for cannabis offenses through policy reform, legislative advocacy and impactful direct service programs that work to both release cannabis offenders from incarceration and to assist those coming out of incarceration in rebuilding their lives through reentry programs and anti-recidivism efforts.

Join Goodwin Cannabis practice partner Jennifer Fisher, Chiara Juster, Advocate & Attorney, and Fatima Afia, Associate at Hiller, PC, to learn more about the role they play in bringing restorative justice to the cannabis industry as pro bono partners, and about LPP’s release efforts around clemency initiatives on the state and federal level, their compassionate release program and client advocacy.
