Goodwin Procter Adds Prominent Attorneys to Financial Services Practice in Washington, DC

BOSTON, Jan. 26, 2009 – Goodwin Procter announced today a major expansion of its Financial Services Group with the addition of Marco E. Adelfio. Adelfio is resident in Washington, D.C. The addition of Adelfio will enable Goodwin Procter to provide a more fully integrated suite of services to prominent common clients, and to offer even greater cross-disciplinary expertise to a broad range of financial institutions.

Adelfio will augment the depth and breadth of the Investment Management practice, which is a key component of the Financial Services Group. This aspect of their practice focuses on counseling registered investment companies, independent directors of investment companies, investment advisers, banks and other financial services institutions in the investment management industry. He is well-seasoned in handling complex acquisition and reorganization transactions for fund companies and asset managers, including several of the largest mutual fund consolidations in history. Adelfio was formerly of Morrison & Foerster.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome lawyers of this stature. They are widely acknowledged as leaders on legal issues that affect the mutual fund industry and the financial services industry more generally, and will add immeasurably to our already considerable expertise in this sector,” said Regina M. Pisa, chairman and managing partner. “Both lawyers have represented a wide variety of financial services companies, and their experience and judgment will add valuable dimensions to our national financial services practice. We see tremendous benefits accruing for our clients with the addition of Bob and Marco.”

Goodwin Procter’s Financial Services Group handles a broad range of integrated corporate and regulatory matters across the financial services industry, including acquisitions, product structuring, financing transactions and multi-faceted internal reorganizations, on behalf of investment advisers, mutual funds, banks, broker-dealers, insurance companies and other financial institutions. The Investment Management practice, which is chaired by Phil Newman, advises on the full range of investment products and services, including mutual funds, registered closed-end funds, private funds, bank-maintained funds, institutional and individual advisory relationships, and insurance and annuity products.
