Honoring Our Veterans: Attorneys & Staff Celebrate Loved Ones

Alice Martinez, LA Real Estate Secretary

Goodwin Procter employees have a long-standing tradition of honoring friends and family who have served in the military. In celebration of Memorial Day, we asked attorneys and staff, "Who will you honor this Memorial Day and why?"

Alice Martinez, a Real Estate Secretary in our Los Angeles office, shared the following story:

"I will be honoring my little brother Arthur Martinez, who was in the U.S. Marines (2nd BTL 11th Marines, Radio Operator, Sgt. Artillery) serving from June 1985 to May 1991. The last six months of his employment in the Marines, Desert Storm occurred and we drove my brother to San Diego, where he was being deployed. I was with my Mom and Dad and saw how sad my parents looked to see my brother leave. He told my parents, 'Don't worry I will be back home soon.' I looked at him and gave him a hug and told him, 'Don't worry, I know we will see you soon.' Many prayers were with the soldiers of Desert Storm. He came home safe, six months later, when the War ended. My prayers go out to [other familes] and friends that have brave soldiers in the War."

Is there someone in the military who you would like to celebrate? If so, please tell us your story.
