BOSTON, April 18, 2011 – Goodwin Procter LLP, a national Am Law 50 firm, has again been named as a leader in private equity and venture capital deals by Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst. Goodwin Procter ranked fourth overall in volume for private equity and venture capital transactions closed in 2010 on Private Equity Analyst’s annual rankings, moving up from fifth for deals closed in 2009.
Goodwin closed 153 private equity and 355 venture capital transactions for a total of 508 completed deals in 2010.
“These results demonstrate the wide range of deals we handle for entrepreneurs and investors, from seed financings and venture capital to growth equity financings and buy-outs,” said John LeClaire, chair of the firm’s Private Equity Group. “Goodwin's market position in both the buyout sector and in venture capital is an important differentiator that is generating growth and market penetration nationally and internationally for our firm.”
“Our ability to execute early-stage financings for companies with breakout potential has been greatly enhanced by our investment in innovative legal services delivery platforms, such as our Founders Workbench site,” added Anthony McCusker, co-chair of Goodwin’s Technology Companies Practice.
Goodwin’s combined Technology Companies and Private Equity Groups include 260+ lawyers. The firm has one of the largest technology and life sciences practices in the country, supported by significant intellectual property, tax and private investment funds groups, all of which participate actively in the firm’s venture capital and private equity financing activities.
