Partners Rick Kline, An-Yen Hu, Sarah Axtell and Anthony McCusker have been named 2020 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) in Capital Markets by the Daily Journal for their work representing the underwriting syndicate in Lyft’s March 2019 IPO that raised $2.34 billion. The CLAY awards recognize lawyers throughout California whose work has made a significant impact on the law, the legal profession and their practice area.
The Goodwin partners worked with an underwriting syndicate featuring twenty-nine financial institutions. The drafting of the prospectus for the groundbreaking IPO took place over 6 months, and was a collaborative process among the lawyers, Lyft, underwriters and auditors.
Kline is co-chair of Goodwin’s Capital Markets and Public Company practice and a partner in its Technology practice. He specializes in all areas of corporate and securities laws with a primary focus on capital markets transactions and public company representation, and also represents corporate clients on company formations, venture financings, M&A transactions, corporate governance and advising board of directors. Kline has previously been recognized as an American Lawyer Dealmaker of the Year and Law360 Capital Markets MVP, as well as being named a leading lawyer by Chambers Global, Chambers USA and the Legal 500 US.
Hu, a partner in the firm’s Technology and Capital Markets and Public Company practices, specializes in all areas of corporate and securities laws and is known for having a successful track record guiding clients through the entire corporate life cycle, from pre-incorporation planning to mergers, acquisitions, public offerings and public company representation. Hu currently serves on the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and is the hiring partner for Goodwin’s Silicon Valley office. He has previously been recognized for excellence by the Daily Journal’s 40 Under 40 List.
Axtell is a partner in the firm’s Business Law Department and a member of its Technology & Life Sciences group. Based in the Silicon Valley office, she specializes in all areas of corporate and securities laws, with a primary focus on advising emerging-growth technology companies and capital markets transactions. Axtell’s recent high-profile matters include representing Lime, Slack Technologies, Inc. and Vlocity, Inc. She was named a 2019 Capital Markets Rising Star by Law360.
McCusker is a partner in and co-chair of Goodwin’s Technology practice. He specializes in all areas of corporate, securities and partnership laws, with a primary focus on advising emerging-growth technology companies, and is a key contributor to Goodwin's Founders Workbench, an online resource for start-ups, emerging companies and entrepreneurs.
