'A Global Outlier': Japan Is APAC's Bright Spot for Real Estate Investments, Goodwin Report Finds (Law.com)

While investment activity in Asia-Pacific real estate markets has been noticeably restrained over the past year, Japan is proving the exception and international law firms have been busy assisting global investors with real estate deals there. In a report published by Goodwin in collaboration with KPMG and investor services provider IQ-EQ on current trends in Asia Pacific private real estate funds, Japan was singled out as one of the bright spots in the region, in part because it has maintained low interest rates. “Japan remains a global outlier due to its interest rate position,” the report said. “With the Bank of Japan (BOJ) standing virtually alone among central banks in keeping interest rates at ultralow levels, the Japanese market is for many ‘the only Asian market in which you can still underwrite an investment on a conventional basis.’” More on Law.com.
