Anthony M. Feeherry

Tony Feeherry is a partner in Goodwin’s Business Litigation Group. He has served on the firm’s Executive Committee and was co-chair of its Litigation Department from 1995 to 2004. Mr. Feeherry’s diverse trial and appellate practice has included general corporate, antitrust, employment-related cases (including trade secret, non-solicitation and non-competition disputes), majority-minority shareholder and partnership disputes, securities class actions and various cases involving the financial services industry. He also has extensive experience with alternate dispute resolution procedures including mediation and commercial arbitration.

Professional Activities

Mr. Feeherry has been active for many years in municipal affairs and served on the Conservation Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals for the City of Salem, MA, and as chair of the Planning Board and as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town of Wenham, MA.

Areas of Practice


Mr. Feeherry’s complex commercial litigation work includes cases such as In Re Application of Microsoft Corp. 2006 WL 1344091 (D.Mass.); Industrial Representatives v. CP Clare Corp., 74 F.3d 128 (7th Cir. 1996); and Foxboro Co. v. Arabian Amoco, 805 F.2d 34 (1st Cir. 1986). He has also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General in connection with civil and criminal matters relating to the Big Dig. Those cases resulted in civil settlements to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in excess of $500 million.

His financial services litigation work includes Shawmut Bank, N.A. v. Miller, 415 Mass. 482 (1993); Cambridgeport Savings Bank v. Boersner, 413 Mass. 432 (1992); and Cappellini v. Mellon Mortgage Co., 991 F.Supp. 31 (D.Mass. 1998).

Mr. Feeherry’s ERISA litigation includes Joyce v. John Hancock, 462 F. Supp. 2d 192 (D.Mass. 2006) and Caterino, et al. v. Barry, et al., 8 F.3d 878 (1st Cir. 1993. His securities litigation included the representation of a Managing Director/Founder in In re: Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products Litigation (D.Mass.).

Mr. Feeherry has litigated personal injury cases including wrongful death claims. He has also litigated land use disputes in numerous jurisdictions, including MA, NH, NM, CA, RI and NY, e.g., Stop & Shop Supermarket v. Urstadt Biddle Properties, Inc., 433 Mass. 285 (2001), and bankruptcy cases e.g. Container Recycling Alliance v. Lassman, 359 B.R. 358 (D.Mass. 2007). He also has represented insureds in insurance coverage disputes such as Continental Casualty Co. v. Gilbane Construction Co., et al., 391 Mass. 143 (1984).
