Mr. Smith dedicates his practice to a wide array of investment management, private investment fund and other financial services matters. He focuses his work on the establishment and ongoing management of a variety of private investment vehicles, including hedge funds and real estate funds. Mr. Smith has experience advising private investment funds, registered investment advisers, and other financial institutions. He represents investment management firms in connection with both acquisition transactions and regulatory compliance. Mr. Smith also counsels clients in connection with mergers, reorganization transactions and other corporate related matters.
Roy Smith is a counsel in the firm’s Financial Industry, Investment Management, Private Investment Fund and Financial Institutions Transactions practices. Mr. Smith joined Goodwin in 2006.
Mr. Smith serves on the firm's Neighborhood Business Initiative Committee (a firm project that provides pro bono legal services to low income businesses in Boston’s and New York’s neighborhoods).
In 2013, Mr. Smith received the Civil Rights Pro Bono Recognition Award from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights for his work for Goodwin’s Neighborhood Business Initiative, among his other pro bono and charitable activities. While attending law school, Mr. Smith was the Notes and Comments Editor for the Annual Review of Banking and Financial Law.
