The American Lawyer Names Rachael Bushey and Jennifer Porter 2024 Dealmakers of the Year

The American Lawyer has named Goodwin partners Rachael Bushey and Jennifer Porter 2024 Dealmakers of the Year for their work leading a Goodwin Life Sciences team that successfully advised Globus Medical on its $3.1 billion merger with NuVasive. The prestigious annual awards program honors lawyers who have led the most complex, impactful deals of the last year.

The American Lawyer highlighted Bushey and Porter’s ability to balance the time pressure involved in finalizing the transaction with the need to manage leaks and ensure that Globus Medical’s interests were adequately protected throughout the deal. Nearly two years after the companies first began discussions, Bushey and Porter were able to help their client complete the “largest medical technology transaction of the year” when the deal closed in September 2023.

Bushey is a partner in Goodwin’s Life Sciences group and Co-Chair of the firm’s Philadelphia office. She represents public and private life sciences companies in connection with a variety of capital markets transactions; Securities Exchange Act work; mergers and acquisitions; complex divestitures and carve-out transactions. In addition to day-to-day corporate counseling and strategic advice, she also regularly provides counseling to boards of directors and senior management on a wide range of corporate governance and compliance matters.

Porter, a partner in Goodwin’s Life Sciences group, has years of experience counseling clients in the life sciences industry through their most important strategic transactions and disclosure and governance issues. She focuses primarily on the representation of public and private pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies, advising on a broad range of complex transactions and corporate matters, including capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, Securities Exchange Act reporting, corporate governance, licensing and collaboration transactions, and other strategic transactions.

Goodwin’s Philadelphia office focuses on the life sciences, healthcare, and private equity industries, including where they converge with other sectors such as technology. Its teams have extensive experience in high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions, and specialize in connecting innovators with investors to drive growth, including through financings, partnerships, and M&A.
