In January 2020, we announced bold public retention and advancement goals to be achieved in the next five years. By 2025, we have challenged ourselves to reach the below diversity milestones for our senior associate, partner promotion and leadership classes in regard to LGBTQ+, racio-ethnic, gender and demographic representation.
We regularly track progress against these goals by reviewing our lawyer population, hiring, and elevation data with our affinity group leaders. We strive to ensure that our work allocation, client development opportunities, and performance evaluation processes are equitable. We will know we have succeeded when all gaps in our pipeline are closed, our leader representation is highly diverse, and our employee experience is equally positive across all demographic groups, as measured with a firmwide inclusion survey.
Exploring the Art of Inclusion
We invite you to expand your diversity, equity, and inclusion palette through our “Exploring the Art of Inclusion” initiative, where we highlight opportunities to dismantle barriers to inclusion and further advancement throughout the talent lifecycle — and how we can collectively make a concrete difference in the journey toward belonging for all.
Finding Fellowship and Forging Pathways
Read how Sydney Simmons, a Summer 2022 Goodwin 1L Diversity Fellow, spent three weeks of her 1L program working with firm client Cerevel Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, and supported pushing the boundaries for both novel therapies and first-generation lawyers.
Women@Goodwin focuses on advancing and retaining women lawyers at Goodwin. We are increasingly employing an intersectional approach as part of our DEI strategy and initiatives, including supporting a CRED initiative dedicated to engaging and supporting women lawyers of color.
The 1L and 2L Diversity Fellowship Programs are designed to promote diversity at Goodwin and in the legal profession by providing opportunities for law students from historically excluded groups.
HBCU IP/Tech Scholarship Program
We actively support the American Bar Association’s Resolution 113, which encourages legal service providers to expand and create opportunities for diverse lawyers and urges legal services buyers to direct a greater percentage of their legal spending toward diverse lawyers.
We are a signatory to the American Bar Association’s Pledge for Change: Disability Diversity in the Legal Profession, which affirms our commitment to employees with disabilities.
