Firm is honored for its commitment to providing pro bono legal services
BOSTON, April 1, 2002 — Goodwin Procter LLP today announced that the firm has been chosen to receive the prestigious National Public Service Award from the American Bar Association Section of Business Law. The firm will receive the award in Boston on April 5, 2002.

Pisa, chairman and managing partner of Goodwin Procter. “We have a strong commitment to serving our underserved communities and we continue to seek out, recognize and use the talents and expertise of our attorneys and staff to assist those in need.”
In 1999, Goodwin Procter enhanced its existing pro bono efforts by introducing a formal “pro bono initiative” to reinforce its dedication to delivering pro bono legal services. As a result of the initiative, Goodwin Procter has expanded the members of its Pro Bono Committee to include attorneys from each of its offices and practice areas, has enhanced communication of pro bono opportunities to attorneys, and has increased its annual pro bono hours by more than 50 percent in 2001.
In addition, overall attorney participation in pro bono work has increased 40 percent between 1999 and 2001. Today, more than half of the firm's attorneys participate in some kind of pro bono work each year.
