Goodwin Procter Attorneys Honored for Pro Bono Efforts

Three New York-based attorneys received the 2002 Cornerstone Award

BOSTON, September 25, 2002 — Goodwin Procter LLP today announced that three attorneys in the firm’s New York office have received the 2002 Cornerstone Award, given annually by the Lawyers Alliance of New York. The recipients include Gregory Patchen, partner in the private equity practice, Lonnie Halpern and Sharon Mousserie, who are both associates in the corporate department.

The three were recognized for their pro bono work on behalf of Neighborhood Housing Services of New Yorks (NHS) “HomeWorks Brooklyn” project.

NHS is a non-profit organization that purchases previously foreclosed-upon one- to four-family homes from the City of New York, obtains third-party financing and a subsidy from the city in order to renovate the homes, and ultimately sells the homes to low and middle income individuals.

Patchen, Halpern and Mousserie's work with NHS included providing the organization with legal advice on the purchase of the properties from the city, obtaining financing for the subsequent renovations of the homes, and the final sales.
