Goodwin Procter, a national Am Law 50 firm, announced today that Grant P. Fondo has joined the firm’s Silicon Valley office as a partner in its Securities Litigation & White Collar Defense Group. Fondo comes to Goodwin from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California, where he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in its Criminal Division for nearly five years. He will focus on representing technology, life sciences and venture capital clients in a wide range of litigation and investigative matters.
During his tenure as an AUSA, Fondo prosecuted white collar crime – including investment, bank and securities fraud – as well as drug trafficking. He led a team that received the 2012 Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Case of the Year Award for a
wiretap case that culminated in what is believed to be the largest seizure of methamphetamine in U.S. history.
Prior to his service in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Fondo was a partner at Cooley LLP in Palo Alto, where he focused on securities litigation and government enforcement matters, as well as general commercial litigation.
Fondo’s practice at Goodwin is expected to include representation of clients across a wide range of complex business disputes, including white collar, class action and securities litigation, SEC enforcement proceedings, M&A litigation, internal investigations, licensing and contractual disputes, and other commercial litigation.
“Grant’s wide and varied skill set and experience spans both commercial and white collar/securities litigation areas, bringing added depth to the range of services we can provide to our West Coast clients on high-stakes matters,” said Anthony McCusker, head of the firm’s Silicon Valley office. “We’re delighted that he has chosen to join our growing California team.”
“Grant is a tremendously talented attorney with a proven track record of success,” added Richard Strassberg, head of Goodwin’s White Collar Defense practice. “He complements our established white collar and government investigations practice team well and will help us serve our West Coast and international clients.”
Fondo received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Vermont. He is admitted to practice in California and Connecticut, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Central, Eastern and Northern Districts of California and for the District of Connecticut, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
He is co-chair of the White Collar & Corporate Governance Subcommittee of the Securities Litigation Committee, ABA Section of Litigation and is a former co-chair of the Computer and Internet Litigation Committee, ABA Section of Litigation.
He can be reached at 650.752.3236 or gfondo@goodwinlaw.com.
Goodwin’s Silicon Valley office opened in 2007 and is now home to more than 50 attorneys who provide business law and litigation services in the areas of private equity, venture capital, technology and life sciences, intellectual property, SEC investigations, and labor and employment matters.
Goodwin has one of the country’s largest and most active Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement practices, defending securities class actions and shareholder derivative suits, as well as SEC investigations and enforcement proceedings. Goodwin is currently defending cases in California and in other courts across the country involving hundreds of billions of dollars of mortgage-backed securities, issued and underwritten by both domestic and foreign financial institutions.
The firm’s White Collar Crime & Government Investigations Practice has successfully represented Fortune 500 companies and individual business leaders in some of the United States’ most high-profile cases. Goodwin’s lawyers conduct internal investigations, defend clients in bet-the-company cases and advise clients on corporate governance issues, compliance programs and government inquiries.
