Goodwin’s Mark Abate Named President of NJIPLA


Goodwin Procter partner Mark Abate has been named President of the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association (NJIPLA). His term, which begins January 1, 2014, runs for one year. In his role as President, Abate leads the NJIPLA’s Board of Managers, which includes representatives from Johnson & Johnson, Alcatel-Lucent, CommVault Systems, Inc. and Gibbons P.C.

Abate, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, concentrates his practice on trials and appeals of patent infringement cases, and has significant expertise in matters involving electronics, computers, computer software, financial systems and electrical, mechanical and medical devices. He has been ranked in Chambers and the IAM Patent Litigation 250. Abate served as President of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association from 2009-10.

The NJIPLA includes more than 300 practicing intellectual property attorneys, patent agents, law students and interested individuals from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. The organization sponsors several events each year that provide both educational and networking opportunities.
