Goodwin Procter announced today that five attorneys have joined as partners in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice. They come to Goodwin from Kenyon & Kenyon, a specialty intellectual property firm known for litigating high-stakes patent cases.
Joining Goodwin Procter in New York Huiya Wu, and joining in Washington, D.C. is William G. James. The group has significant patent litigation experience relating to pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and other life sciences, as well as Hatch-Waxman ANDA litigation, trade secret and ITC litigation, and inter partes review at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
“We are delighted that this distinguished and talented group has chosen Goodwin as the firm that best complements their respected intellectual property practices,” said Regina M. Pisa, chairman of Goodwin Procter. “Their arrival gives our clients a distinct advantage when facing intellectual property challenges and related matters in an increasingly complex marketplace.”
William James, who also served on Kenyon’s Management Committee, focuses his practice on patent litigation related to pharmaceutical and biotechnology products. He has significant experience with Hatch-Waxman litigations, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, including first-to-file cases and multi-defendant ANDA drug challenges. He also advises pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on freedom-to-operate, due diligence, licensing, and prosecution issues.
Huiya Wu has practiced intellectual property law for over a decade, focusing on patent and related litigation. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants before federal district and state courts, as well as before the International Trade Commission. She handles all phases of U.S. patent litigation, including pre-trial investigation, fact and expert discovery, and motion, trial and appellate practice.
Goodwin Procter’s Patent Litigation Practice is ranked by Corporate Counsel as one of the nation’s most active patent litigation practices, drawing on the firm’s more than 150 IP attorneys and scientists dedicated to actively protecting and promoting client assets. Goodwin routinely works with clients to take cases from pre-suit investigations through discovery proceedings and trials and its attorneys provide counsel on infringement, validity and patentability issues, and when necessary, litigate patents in federal district courts throughout the country. The firm has substantial experience before the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
