Greenwire Names Willy Jay One of Five Up-and-Comers in Environmental Law


Goodwin Procter partner Willy Jay was recently named one of five up-and-comers representing industry in environmental law by Greenwire, an Environment and Energy (E&E) publication.

Before joining Goodwin Procter, Jay worked at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Solicitor General’s office. There, he worked on a number of environmental matters, including the government's briefs in the 2012 Supreme Court case PPL Montana v. Montana, which centered on the definition of "navigable" waters.

Jay has since established himself as a frequent advocate at the Supreme Court on environmental and other issues. He has argued 13 cases before the Supreme Court, briefed more than 30 cases on the merits and briefed more than 150 cases at the certiorari stage. Jay has also handled cases in every court of appeals, including briefing or arguing significant environmental matters in the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuits. His practice has also included work in federal district court, state trial court, and state administrative agencies.
