Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Rachel Dooley joined the firm as Chief Innovation Officer, resident in the New York office. Dooley most recently served as the Global Managing Counsel of McKinsey Digital, a McKinsey & Company growth platform. She reports to Goodwin’s Chief Operating Officer, Michael Caplan.

As Goodwin’s Chief Innovation Officer, Dooley will lead a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate with the firm’s lawyers, clients and global operations team members to nurture Goodwin’s culture of innovation and to identify and deliver bespoke legal products and services. Dooley’s appointment enhances the firm’s client relationship development and expansion, client relationship management, business intelligence, processes, and use of technology, including artificial intelligence and data.

“The legal industry is at a point of inflection, and having a strategy that includes innovative thinking, processes and solutions is critical,” said Caplan. “Our clients are facing accelerating technological, regulatory, and data disruption, meaning that innovation will be key to seizing tomorrow’s business opportunities. Rachel’s extensive experience will help us develop next-generation legal services for our clients and keep Goodwin at the forefront of innovation. We are thrilled to welcome her to the firm.”

“Goodwin is an industry pacesetter that has bridged the gap between the practice and the business of law.” said Dooley. “My passion for identifying new market opportunities and unlocking creativity in how we work as lawyers will accelerate the growth of  Goodwin’s client-centric approach. I am excited to work across the firm, leveraging Goodwin’s tremendous bench of legal and global operations team talent to drive an innovation platform that engages internal and external ecosystems.”

An experienced technology lawyer who practiced at two BigLaw firms, Dooley founded and led McKinsey Legal Lab, a first-of-its-kind innovation incubator and accelerator for a global in-house legal department. She also co-founded McKinsey Digital’s Center of Risk Excellence, which focuses on agile risk management in technology.

Dooley earned a JD from Fordham University School of Law and a BSE in Mechanical Engineering (cum laude) from University of Michigan. A frequent author and thought leader, Rachel sits on the Board of Directors for Quantum Strategy Institute. An experienced design thinker and designer, Dooley was invited for membership in the Council of Fashion Designers of America for her fashion jewelry collections show in New York, Milan and Paris.
