While international partner promotions were essentially flat from 2021 to 2022 among Am Law 100 firms, some U.S. firms have nonetheless chosen to invest heavily in their global talent. The message from those firms has been clear: Global markets and international talent matter. Goodwin made a record number of partner promotions in the U.K. this year, promoting seven in London. Goodwin also promoted a lawyer in Cambridge and two in Frankfurt in its newest class. Chair Robert Insolia said the firm is now well-established in those markets and has talent that should be grown and rewarded. Goodwin’s current partner class is spread across five specific legal service areas, which Insolia said is a product of the firm’s business strategy. “We have a very straightforward strategy: to be a very significant player in five verticals: Life sciences, technology, real estate, private equity and financial services,” said Insolia to Law.com.
