Goodwin has hired partner Leonard Wood to lead its Shareholder Activism and Takeover Defense practice group, the firm announced Tuesday. Wood focuses on issues including strategic investor relations, proxy fights, and shareholder activism campaigns. “It’s been a very busy year in shareholder activism,” Wood said. “It started off slow, but it’s basically rebounded.” He noted that the practice at Goodwin has already been created, and he plans to “work with its already existing clients to do more for them.” Goodwin is among law firms seeking a stronger foothold in shareholder activism work that surged in the middle of this year. Wood said he’s already steering clients through investor discussions in the health care and life sciences industries. He will work at the firm’s New York and Boston offices. Wood takes over as chair of Goodwin’s shareholder activism and takeover defense practice group in October.
