Shavon Henry joined Goodwin in 2024 and is an associate in the firm’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution department. With a specialized focus in trial practice, she has experience representing a variety of clients in all phases of litigation in state and federal courts.
Prior to joining the firm, Shavon was a litigation associate at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP representing a variety of clients in complex civil litigation and commercial disputes. She also served as Public Defender and successfully litigated cases to resolution and verdict. Shavon is a skilled litigator with broad experience counseling and advising clients in case negotiation and litigation-avoidance strategies. She has successfully litigated 8 jury trials to verdict.
Experience
Representative matters include:
- Represented a winery in a civil action for breach of a bailment contract that resulted in damage to hundreds of bottles of wine, with damages proven and won at trial with a favorable jury verdict in Sacramento Superior Court awarding over $1 million USD. Examined lay and expert witnesses in depositions and at trial*
- Represented an investor and employee of a coffee farm company in a breach of contract action for the company’s failure to repay promissory notes and violation of California employment laws. Successfully opposed Demurrer*
- Defended a property owner in a property dispute arising out of disagreement about property boundary with neighbors in Los Angeles Superior Court. Deposed both Plaintiffs and resulting testimony compelled voluntary dismissal of case*
- Represented a cannabis company and its founder in an action for fraud against a Canadian entity for its violation of an NDA and theft of founders proprietary dosing algorithm. Successfully opposed Demurrer*
- Represented a technology company in an action for the misappropriation of trade secrets and theft of patented Bluetooth technology in Colorado Federal Court with damages proven and won at trial with a favorable jury verdict awarding approximately $25 million USD*
- Defended a property owner in a class action landlord-tenant dispute, resulting in the eventual dismissal of the action in Santa Barbara Superior Court. Successfully opposed class certification*
- Defended a prestige beaty company, with over 20 brands, against allegations of ADA violations brought against its various websites in Southern District of New York*
- Defended a property owner in expert depositions arising from a lawsuit alleging $46 million in damages related to contamination by toxic dry cleaner chemicals, resulting in a favorable jury verdict in Marin Superior Court finding no liability for the property owner*
- Represented an environmental services and industrial cleaning company in investigation related to a grand jury subpoena issued by the DOJ relating to a chemical spill in the Northern District of California*
- Defended an individual and his architecture design company in an action for breach of contract and negligence arising from a construction defect dispute*
- Represented individuals in summary judgement motion against a company for breach of contract relating to equity repurchase agreements*
- Defended individual property owner in civil and criminal action brought by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office for misdemeanor violations of the local municipal codes, negotiating a diversion resolution that resulted in dismissal of the case once property was deemed compliant upon inspection*
- Defended individuals in breach of contract action arising from the sale and repurchase of mortgage loan sale agreements*
- Defended an entertainment company against an action alleging breach of contract related to the sale of an asset in the Delaware Superior Court*
- Defended an insurance company and its CEO in a civil and criminal action brought by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office for misdemeanor violations of local municipal codes, negotiating a diversion resolution that resulted in dismissal of the case once property was deemed compliant upon inspection*
- Defended an individual owner of a property management company as a cross-defendant in a breach of contract action relating to a construction defect case*
- Represented a financial services company in a breach of contract action against a citizen of Mexico in the Northern District of California*
- Defended a mining company and property owner in depositions and hearings in a multi-party litigation action related to water rights and coastal mining in Monterey County*
- At the public defenders’ office, litigated hundreds of misdemeanor and felony matters in the Contra Costa Superior Courts and the California Courts of Appeal. First chaired six (6) jury trials to verdict*
- Represented a technology company in the negotiation and successful resolution of a commercial dispute related to nonpayment of invoices
- Represented credit fund in breach of contract action in the Northern District of California
- Represented an aerospace company in the negotiation and resolution of a commercial dispute related to storage and manufacturing of aircraft components

Shavon is a member of the San Francisco chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers Leadership Development Committee and a member of the Black Women Lawyers of Northern California.
During law school, she was a student attorney at the Juvenile Justice Clinic representing children in juvenile criminal proceedings in Washtenaw County.
