Ryan Klima, an associate in Goodwin’s IP Litigation group, has significant experience in patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, patent prosecution, client counseling, and patent portfolio development across a broad range of electrical and computer technologies, mechanical and medical devices, and related systems.
Experience
Ryan has been involved in various stages of patent litigation and post-grant proceedings, including expert selection and depositions, invalidity and non-infringement strategy development and contentions, source code analysis, discovery, motion practice, and pretrial proceedings.
Ryan has worked with the following technologies: machine learning, multi-sensor integrated navigation systems, autonomous electric vehicles, robotics, computer architecture, cloud computing, semiconductors, batteries, medical and dental devices, consumer electronic devices, databases, cryptography, display technologies, computer networking, wireless communications and protocols, and predictive analytics.
- Defended ClearCorrect in a patent infringement dispute in the Western District of Texas*
- Successfully defended expert against multiple Daubert motions and helped secure third-party liability for client subject to NTSB Investigation (In re East Palestine Train Derailment, 4:23-cv-00242, N.D. Ohio; NTSB #DCA23HR001)*
- Defended Skyworks Solutions, Inc. against Bell Semiconductor, LLC in a patent infringement dispute before the International Trade Commission (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1342)*
- Achieved full invalidation of all challenged claims in three, related inter partes review (IPR) proceedings (IPR2022-00733, -00734, -01009) for Nearmap US*
- Secured third-party custody in two child custody disputes before the DC Superior Court Family Court in collaboration with the Children’s Law Center*

Previous Professional Experience
Prior to joining Goodwin, Ryan worked as a senior associate at WilmerHale, an associate at Fish & Richardson P.C., and as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He also has prior experience in tech transfer, having previously worked for the College of William & Mary’s technology transfer office and Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties (VTIP).
