Beth Low is an associate in Goodwin’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice. She joined Goodwin in 2018 after serving as a law clerk, first to Judge Charles R. Breyer and then to Magistrate Judge Maria-Elena James (ret.), both of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
Beth focuses her work on complex trade secret misappropriation and patent disputes involving a range of technologies, including EV batteries, digital advertising, digital outdoor displays. She has extensive experience with federal and California state court litigation.
Beth is committed to pro bono matters. Recent pro bono work include representing an incarcerated individual in a federal civil rights case brought under 28 U.S.C. § 1983; filing FOIA lawsuits on behalf of the ACLU relating to language access at immigrant detention centers; representing individuals in claims arising from their mistreatment while in the custody of ICE third-party contractors; and assisting transgender individuals with updating their identification documents to reflect their gender identities.
During her time in the Northern District of California, Beth handled a wide variety of civil cases and legal issues, including a complex, high-profile multidistrict litigation that involved claims brought by consumers, investors, and government entities.
Experience
Representative matters include:
- Samba TV v. Alphonso Inc. (N.D. Cal.) and Alphonso Inc. v. Samba TV (D. Del.). Represented Alphonso in competitor patent infringement disputes on technology relating to digital ad campaigns on TVs and mobile devices. Achieved summary judgment of non-infringement on behalf of Alphonso in N.D. Cal. litigation. The grant of summary judgment was upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
- M.A. Mobile Ltd. v. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (N.D. Cal.). Defended IIT in a trade secret misappropriation case. Achieved summary judgment on all claims
- Guzik Technical Enterprises v. Keysight Technologies (Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara). Represented Keysight in defense of trade secret misappropriation and contract claims
- Tesla Inc. v. Rivian Automotive, LLC et al. (Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara). Currently representing Rivian against claims of a trade secret misappropriation
- Omnireps LLC v. AddOn Computer Peripherals LLC (N.D. Ill.). Currently representing multiple defendants in lawsuit alleging claims of trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, copyright infringement, civil conspiracy, and RICO
- Represented PAX Labs in numerous consumer class actions filed in federal and state courts nation-wide
- Represented media and technology company in lawsuit involving patent infringement and trade claims relating to streaming and interactive media
- Represented multinational electronics manufacturer at the ITC
