Darlene Staines is an associate in Goodwin’s Litigation department who supports complex patent litigation and IP-related matters, with experience spanning pharmaceutical, biotechnology, genomics, and technology disputes. Her recent work includes patent litigation matters for life sciences companies such as Bicara Therapeutics and Factor Bioscience, and pre-suit work for BPCIA litigation and post grant review proceedings. She has also contributed to trade secret litigation for LG Electronics, supported subpoena response and corporate litigation matters, and assisted with IP counseling and transactional work. In addition to her client work, Darlene maintains an active pro bono practice.
Experience
Darlene joined Goodwin in 2024 after serving as a Summer Associate at the firm. During law school, she was a legal intern in the Samuelson-Glushko Intellectual Property and Information Law Clinic and a Senior Articles Editor for the Fordham Law Review. Prior to her legal career, Darlene received her PhD in Genetics from the University of Chicago, worked as a science editor, and taught middle and high school chemistry. Her scientific background informs her work on technically intensive disputes and supports collaboration with clients operating at the intersection of science, innovation, and litigation.
Darlene is an active contributor of Goodwin’s Big Molecule Watch blog, a vital resource in the realm of biologics, biosimilars, and the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA).
