Dr. Sakshi Uppal is a science law clerk and a registered patent agent in the firm’s Business Law department and a member of its Intellectual Property group. She joined Goodwin in 2018. Dr. Uppal has extensive knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry to help clients build and maintain their intellectual property portfolios. Her work includes performing freedom-to-operate analyses; patentability, infringement and validity analyses; and preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of life science technologies, including immunotherapies, large molecule biologics, vaccines, and gene therapy. Under the supervision of Goodwin’s attorneys, she also assists clients in IP diligence matters for business transactions.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Goodwin, Dr. Uppal was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Medicine at The University of Chicago, where she explored the effect of hypoxia on epigenetic regulation, gene expression, and tumor growth in neuroblastoma. She was awarded the prestigious Young Investigator grant co-funded by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Northwestern Mutual. Dr. Uppal earned her PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, where she developed functional assays to probe small molecule-G protein interactions using microelectrode arrays. Dr. Uppal has presented her work at national conferences and authored peer-reviewed articles in journals including Organic Letters and Biosensors.
