Partner Edward S. Weltman Retires from Goodwin Procter

Goodwin Procter partner Edward S. Weltman, chair of the firm's Products Liability & Mass Torts Group for the past six years and a member of the firm's Executive Committee for four years, is retiring from the firm.

Ed joined Goodwin Procter in 2001, from Schneck Weltman & Hashmall, when its products liability practice combined with Goodwin's. A nationally recognized litigator in the products field and a prominent player in the "Fen-Phen" and DES litigations, Ed and his colleagues from Schneck Weltman & Hashmall greatly expanded the firm's overall products liability expertise, further enlarging the practice's national and international footprint. This combination of talent also sparked the growth of Goodwin Procter's litigation capabilities in New York at a critical juncture and set the foundation for building the significant IP practice that exists in New York today. More recently, Ed has devoted his efforts to Goodwin Procter's California initiative, spending time in San Francisco to help establish our presence on the West Coast.

Notwithstanding Ed's retirement, he will continue to work with the firm over the next few years. Ed's near term plans involve the launch of his own consulting firm, a new venture which will focus on providing consulting services to the food and wine industries. While the consulting firm will be New York-based, Ed will continue to maintain his residences in San Francisco and Napa Valley where he has become established in the community.

We wish Ed the best in his retirement and new endeavors, and in recognizing his leadership efforts and accomplishments on behalf of Goodwin Procter.
