Goodwin Procter a Recipient of the CIO 100 Award for the Second Consecutive Year

BOSTON, June, 1, 2008 – For the second consecutive year, Goodwin Procter has been named a recipient of the CIO 100 award. Presented annually by IDG’s CIO magazine, the honor recognizes organizations around the world that exhibit the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

Award recipients are chosen based on the ability to deliver business value through innovative IT channels, that create competitive advantage, enable growth, foster collaboration and improve relationships with clients. Goodwin Procter was honored for the development of the firm’s Matter Pages, a web-based system that compiles data from a myriad of sources into an easily readable and searchable tabbed format.

“In an effort to effectively support the firm’s rapid growth, it was essential for Goodwin Procter to reduce the time attorneys and their assistants spent gathering and summarizing information from a variety of systems. The Matter Pages place client information at their fingertips, which means attorneys spend less time compiling information and more time focusing on their legal practice,” said Peter F. Lane, chief information officer of Goodwin Procter. “The integration and customization of Matter Pages provides a platform for real-time knowledge management and collaboration among attorneys, which results in outstanding client service.”

Until the rollout of the Matter Pages project, client information was stored in various systems. Now, the information is integrated and provides users with a single point of entry and a comprehensive view of all the matter information in real time. Each Matter Page contains custom built applications such as calendar applications and wikis. The development of the Matter Pages has dramatically increased the efficiency and flexibility of gathering and reporting client information for legal departments as well as administrative departments.

In August, Lane will accept the award for Goodwin Procter at the CIO 100 awards ceremony, held during the CIO 100 Symposium in Colorado. Last year Goodwin Procter was honored at the CIO 100 awards ceremony for the development of iStaff, a web-based application that has revolutionized the firm’s staffing process.
