Delcy Sweet Honored by Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights

The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law of the Boston Bar Association honored Goodwin Procter associate Delcy Sweet with its Pro Bono Civil Rights Recognition Award at the annual reception held on March 25, 2009 in Boston. Delcy was recognized for her work with the Belin Economic Justice Project and Grow Your Business Initiative. Goodwin Procter sponsored the event that brings together a broad mix of pro bono and civil rights advocates along with Boston Lawyers' Committee staff and clients.

Goodwin has been a long-time participant in the Boston Lawyer's Committee, which was founded in the 1960s in response to a call to action from President John F. Kennedy. Then and now, the organization has been supported by many leading Boston firms, both financially and as litigators of important cases. While the Committee's mission once focused almost exclusively on litigation, particularly on cases with potential for systemic change, there are now opportunities for business law attorneys to get involved as well -- such as the Belin Economic Justice Project, in which participating lawyers help get minority-owned/low-income businesses up and running.

Ken Parsigian and Inez Friedman-Boyce are board members of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights.
