Lynne B. Barr Elected Chair Elect of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association

BOSTON, September, 8, 2009 Lynne B. Barr has been elected Chair-Elect of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA) for a one-year term.  She will become the Chair of the Section in August 2010.  The Business Law Section of the ABA has approximately 60,000 members and serves them by furthering the development and improvement of business law, educating section members in business law and related professional responsibilities, and helping section members to serve their clients competently, efficiently and professionally.

Barr, a partner at Goodwin Procter LLP, is a member of the firm’s Financial Services Group and chair of its Consumer Financial Services Practice.  Her practice focuses on banking and financial services law, where she advises banks, bank holding companies, brokerage concerns, mortgage companies, trade associations and other entities on general corporate matters, including the operation and offering of their products and services, particularly in the context of government regulation of financial institutions. Barr has extensive experience in credit and mortgage lending matters, fair lending and equal credit opportunity issues, credit and deposit services, electronic banking and Internet services, and insurance products.

A member of the Council of the Section of Business Law of the American Bar Association, she is also a member of the American Law Institute.  Barr is the former chair of the ABA’s Consumer Financial Services Committee. In addition, she is the former chair of the Financial Holding Company Subcommittee of the ABA’s Banking Law Committee and the ABA’s Consumer Financial Services Subcommittees on Deposit Accounts and Programs. 

Barr is a former recipient of the prestigious Jean Allard Glass Cutter Award from the ABA’s Business Law Section. This award is presented annually to an exceptional woman business lawyer who has made a significant contribution both to the profession and to the Section of Business Law. Barr received her B.A. and J.D. from George Washington University.
