These rankings will be published in U.S. News & World Report, a stand-alone “Best Law Firms” publication, which will be sent to 30,000 general counsel in the U.S. and to 55,000 leading lawyers globally, and a special section on the USNews.com website.

The U.S. News/Best Lawyers rankings covered 8,782 law firms and 81 practice areas.  Rankings were determined with hard data compiled by U.S. News researchers and with reputational surveys collected by Best Lawyers staff.  The hard data included numbers of lawyers and clients, numbers of transactions and litigation matters, pro bono commitment, diversity and other objective data.

Reputational input was received from 9,514 clients -- including every Fortune 100 company and 587 of the Fortune 1000 companies.  These responses provided more than 194,000 firm practice area evaluations, while some 6,200 clients provided researchers more than 11,000 comments about law firm practice areas and individual lawyers.  Also, about 9,000 lawyers completed nearly 595,000 practice area evaluations.
