Brian D. Smith - In Memoriam

Goodwin Procter is mourning the death of its partner Brian D. Smith, a leading real estate lawyer who joined Goodwin Procter in 2008 to lead the opening of our London office and co-chair our Hospitality & Leisure Practice.

Brian approached his life and career with an open mind, a giving heart and a quest for challenge. He was passionate about his work and cared deeply about his clients’ success. He advised many of the top hotel companies in the world, and his practice involved complex cross-border transactions in Asia, Europe, North America, Africa and the Middle East. With his unflappable demeanor, high ethical standards and business savvy, Brian exemplified the best of the legal profession.

Educated at Brown University, the University of Virginia Law School and the University of Cambridge, where he earned a Ph.D., Brian was a true Renaissance man – a devoted scholar, an avid reader, a dedicated athlete and a world-class lawyer.

It was our great fortune that Brian chose to make Goodwin Procter his home. His time with us was all too brief, but in that span he touched many and inspired us in ways that will have a lasting impact.

We will miss him.
