Goodwin Procter Names Robert S. Insolia as Managing Partner; Regina M. Pisa to Continue as Firm Chairman

NEW YORK, January 25, 2012 – Goodwin Procter today announced that Robert S. Insolia has been named Managing Partner of the firm.  Effective February 1, Insolia will begin a five year term, becoming the fifth Managing Partner in the firm’s 100 year history and the first to be based in New York City. Regina M. Pisa, who has served as both Chairman and Managing Partner of the Am Law 50 law firm since 1998, will continue to serve as Chairman.

Insolia joined Goodwin in 1997 as a founding partner of Goodwin’s New York office, which he chaired through 2004.  He chaired New York’s Business Law Department through 2007, and has served on the firm’s Executive Committee. A widely respected leader in the real estate capital markets sector, he currently serves as co-chair of Goodwin’s Real Estate Private Investment Fund Practice.

Under the new firm leadership structure, Pisa will expand her focus on overall firm strategy and policy formation, external growth efforts, client relations and external communications activities. As Managing Partner, Insolia will oversee day-to-day operations at the firm and manage the performance of its practice areas and attorneys, including oversight of partner relations and performance.

“Rob brings depth, experience and a track record of successful leadership to his new position,” said Pisa. “I’m delighted that we will be working together to lead Goodwin Procter into its second hundred years.”

“No one has set the bar higher for law firm leadership than Regina,” said Insolia. “Together, we see great things ahead for Goodwin Procter.”

In 1998, Pisa became the first woman to be named Chairman and Managing Partner of an Am Law 100 firm.  Under her leadership, Goodwin Procter has grown from a major regional law firm with gross revenues of $172.5 million and 345 attorneys, to a leading national firm with almost $700 million in revenue and 850 attorneys. Last year, the firm was ranked by The American Lawyer as the nation’s 35th largest firm based on gross revenue, becoming one of the only firms to move into the Am Law 50 through organic business growth. Over the course of Pisa’s tenure as Chairman and Managing Partner, the firm significantly expanded its presence in Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. and added offices in Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
