Recent Pro Bono Achievement

Goodwin Procter attorneys recently received recognition for pro bono work with organizations in Boston, Washington D.C., New York and San Francisco including:

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat Greater Boston presented Goodwin with a “Distinguished Service Award” at the 2012 American Dream Awards in March. The award recognizes the pro bono legal services the firm has provided to Habitat over the last ten years. The firm has engaged in pro bono work for Habitat for Humanity since 2002. More than 100 attorneys, paralegals and summer associates firmwide have assisted Habitat with real estate transactions, corporate governance, licensing and financial services advice.

D.C. Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll

Thirty-six Goodwin Procter attorneys recently were named to the D.C. Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of D.C.’s Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, a new regional program that recognizes the critical pro bono contributions of members of the D.C. Bar. Each of the D.C. bar-admitted attorneys demonstrated their commitment to pro bono work by providing at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services in 2011, in accordance with Rule 6.1 of the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct.

NYSBA Empire State Counsel Program

Forty-nine Goodwin Procter attorneys recently were honored by the New York State Bar Association’s 2011 Empire State Counsel Program. The program recognizes New York State Bar Association members who, during the calendar year, performed 50 hours or more of free legal services to persons of limited financial means.

Center for Gender & Refugee Studies at University of California, Hastings College of Law

In April, Goodwin attorneys were honored by the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS) at University of California, Hastings College of Law for their work in the area of asylum law. The CGRS is the nation’s leading organization supporting women asylum-seekers fleeing gender related harm, at both the practice and policy levels. CGRS works to impact the development of law and policy to protect women fleeing gender-based violence.
