Goodwin Procter, a leading Am Law 50 and Global 50 law firm, announced today that Luciana Aquino-Hagedorn is joining the firm as a partner in its Financial Institutions Group in Boston. Luciana returns to Goodwin from Harvard Management Corporation (HMC), the entity responsible for managing Harvard University’s endowment, where she served most recently as Senior Vice President for HMC’s Natural Resources Group.
“We are very pleased to welcome Luciana back to the firm,” said Mark Bettencourt, Chair of Goodwin’s Business Law Department. “As we continue to broaden the scope of our global capabilities for institutional investors, Luciana’s extensive experience and market insight, in both fund formation and cross-border transactions, will be a significant resource for our clients. Her return further illustrates our commitment to continue to invest in our Financial Institutions Group, a long-standing key strength of our firm.”
Aquino-Hagedorn has diverse experience in both portfolio management and as a transactional lawyer. She focuses her transactional practice on cross-border emerging market investments and investments in natural resources, and has particular expertise structuring and negotiating complex investments, restructurings and exits, in addition to managing general legal requirements for these investments on an ongoing basis with sensitivity to the implications of local laws. In addition, she has developed significant business and market insight from her first-hand experience as part of an institutional investment team at HMC.
“Luciana joins our dynamic team of highly skilled transactional lawyers serving institutional investors, asset managers and other stakeholders in the financial services industry,” said Bill Mayer, Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. “She has robust experience from working with one of the world’s renowned institutional investors, and we are delighted to add her expertise to our strong private funds and direct investments practice and deepen our service offerings for clients.”
At HMC, Aquino-Hagedorn was involved in all legal aspects of its natural resources investment portfolio, overseeing U.S. outside counsel and foreign counsel in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Australasia. Prior to her tenure at HMC, she was a financial services transactional lawyer at Goodwin Procter. Aquino-Hagedorn is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New York and Buenos Aires (Argentina). She received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law, her LL.M. from Columbia Law School and her LL.B. from Universidad de Buenos Aires.
