Life Sciences partner Roger Cohen was recognized with the 2018 Cornerstone Award by Lawyers Alliance for New York which honors business and transactional lawyers who provide exceptional pro bono legal services to nonprofits. These services help nonprofits to address critical human needs and improve the quality of life for thousands of low-income New Yorkers.
Since 2008, Cohen has volunteered his time to over a dozen nonprofits improving urban health and provided experienced legal counsel to make complex healthcare laws more clear for nonprofit providers. He also developed and presented a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) webinar through Lawyers Alliance to help nonprofit managers understand how HIPAA rules affect how they handle sensitive health care information.
“I have been privileged to work with a number of community service organizations that are providing services in partnership with traditional healthcare providers as part of an effort to improve healthcare outcomes and reduce the cost of healthcare,” said Cohen. “It has been tremendously rewarding to make a small contribution to these efforts and to help clients navigate the complexity of healthcare regulation.”
