Goodwin Chief Operating Officer Michael Caplan has been named Legal Executive of the Year by the 2021 Best in Biz Awards. Now in its eleventh year, the Best in Biz Awards is the only independent business awards program judged by prominent editors and reporters from top-tier publications in North America.
In his role as COO, Caplan manages the firm's business, financial and administrative operations. He serves on Goodwin's Executive and Management Committees, and focuses on the firm’s strategy and execution.
Caplan was recognized for his leading role in helping to develop and transform Goodwin’s client relationships into strategic partnerships, where both the practice of law and the business of law are leveraged for the benefit of the client. Throughout the challenges of the past year, Caplan has worked with leaders across the firm to deepen relationships and utilize the firm’s operations to ensure that clients are able to weather disruption and continue to thrive in the face of adversity.
Caplan has previously been named Legal Innovator of the Year by The Changing Lawyer Awards and a Legal Intrapreneur by The Financial Times North America Innovative Lawyer Awards. Under his leadership, Goodwin was named Best Business Team by The American Lawyer Industry Awards. A prominent market commentator on current and future trends in the legal industry, Caplan has recently written articles featured in Bloomberg Law, The American Lawyer and Thomson Reuters.
This year’s Best in Biz Awards featured competition among more than 700 entries. From public and private companies across industries and geographic regions in the U.S. and Canada, candidates included established global brands as well as innovative start-ups.
