Goodwin’s Private Equity Group Welcomes M&A and Fund Formation Partner James Mayne in New York

Global law firm Goodwin today announced that James Mayne joined the firm’s Private Equity practice as a partner, resident in the New York office.

“James’ extensive experience with M&A and fund formation is a terrific match for our clients’ needs, especially in asset management and secondaries,” said Michael Kendall, co-chair of Goodwin’s Private Equity practice. “He brings a unique cross-disciplinary skillset to our global team, and we are thrilled to welcome James to the firm.”

Mayne counsels clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, minority investments, and secondary transactions, and on private investment fund formation across a wide range of asset classes and geographies. He has extensive expertise representing clients in the financial services and technology industries, and has advised on dozens of M&A transactions in the asset management industry over two decades practicing corporate law. Mayne joins Goodwin from Credit Suisse. Earlier in his career, he worked at international law firms in New York and Sydney, Australia.

"While in house, I worked with almost all major law firms, and observed firsthand that Goodwin was the most client centric,” said Mayne. “Combining that culture with clear focus, it is no wonder Goodwin continues to go from strength to strength. I am extremely excited to be joining a firm which practices law exactly the way I have always aspired to.”

Goodwin was named the number one firm (by deal count) for global, U.K., and U.S. M&A, and global, U.S., and European private equity buyouts by Mergermarket in the H1 2022 league tables. The firm was recently named the top law firm for fund formation by Law360, the Legal 500 UK Awards, IJ Global, and SuperReturn Awards.
