Dylan Schweers

Dylan Schweers is a senior associate in the firm’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and a member of the firm’s Government Investigations & Enforcement practice and the firm’s Technology Investigations and M&A Post Closing Dispute group and Life Sciences Dispute group. His practice focuses on government and internal investigations, white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement proceedings, securities litigation, and corporate governance matters, with clients including companies, boards, and individuals in the healthcare, life sciences, technology, and financial industries.

Since joining Goodwin, Dylan has represented clients in white collar criminal matters, government investigations, securities litigation, and complex civil litigation in federal and state courts. Dylan also has experience in internal investigations for both private and public companies and institutions.

Dylan’s recent work includes:

• Represent publicly-traded technology company in connection with forensic investigation and SEC investigation relating to high-profile Solar Winds data security incident
• Represented former CEO of multinational conglomerate in SEC investigation into alleged misrepresentations concerning revenue recognition and accounting practices, resolving the matter with the SEC issuing a termination notice and declining to bring enforcement action
• On behalf of Globoforce, Inc., d/b/a Workhuman, won dismissal with prejudice of alleged whistleblower retaliation and unfair and deceptive business practices claims brought by a former executive in federal district court in Florida
• The internal investigation on behalf of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office (“SCDAO”) related to a former Assistant District Attorney during his tenure at the SCDAO
• The Independent Directors of Granite Point Mortgage Trust, Inc., a public commercial mortgage REIT, in a confidential, binding arbitration relating to the termination of Granite Point’s external manager and internalization of its management function
• Conducted high-profile internal investigation on behalf of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology into its donations from and interactions with Jeffrey Epstein, and relevant development protocols. A link to the Goodwin Report can be found here.
• A week-long international arbitration in Massachusetts successfully representing a global corporation in a breach of contract dispute
• Defended a nationwide transportation company in a class action civil suit arising out of alleged misclassification of independent contractors
• Represented various individuals and corporations in investigations conducted by the criminal and civil divisions of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, and healthcare fraud investigations relating to pharmaceutical sales and marketing practices, and drug and device manufacturing processes
• Defended public companies and individuals in SEC insider trading investigation in which the SEC issued termination notices and declined to pursue enforcement actions
• Drafted clemency petition in connection with pro bono representation of client serving federal sentence for non-violent drug offenses for which penalty would have been substantially lower if convicted today
• Represented multiple pro bono clients charged of first degree murder by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including in appeals court

Prior to law school, Dylan was a 2010 Teach For America Corps Member in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he taught eighth-grade English.

While attending law school, Dylan interned at the United States Attorney’s Office (N.D. Ill.). Dylan was also heavily involved in Northwestern’s Bluhm Legal Clinic, where he worked in the Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth on the highly publicized Brendan Dassey (Making a Murderer) involuntary confession case.

Dylan was recognized as a One to Watch in Criminal Defense: White-Collar Law by The Best Lawyers in America in 2022 and 2023.

Dylan graduated cum laude from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He was the co-author of a Justice, Interrupted: The Effect of Gender, Ideology and Seniority at Supreme Court Oral Arguments, with his professor, Tonja Jacobi. The article was published in the Virginia Law Review (103 November 2017).
