Myomi Coad is a senior associate in Goodwin’s Litigation Department and a member of its Intellectual Property practice. Ms. Coad has litigation and trial experience before federal courts as well as in unfair import investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission. On behalf of technology companies, Ms. Coad litigates matters involving a spectrum of technologies, including medical devices, vehicle collision and radar systems, lithium ion batteries, semiconductor packaging and manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, consumer products and electronics, telecommunications, and mechanical systems.

In addition to Ms. Coad’s litigation practice, she dedicates considerable time to pro bono work by representing and counseling clients in immigration matters.

PRO BONO
Ms. Coad maintains an active pro bono practice. She represents clients in immigration matters before the U.S. Department of Justice (Executive Office for Immigration Review), U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services, and related custody matters before the Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court in Fairfax County, Virginia. Ms. Coad has successfully secured Special Immigrant Juvenile (“SIJ”) status for accompanied minors entering the U.S. and legal residency status for SIJs. 

Ms. Coad also volunteers with the landlord and tenant branch of the District of Columbia Courts. She assists both landlords and tenants with landlord/tenant matters and potential dispute resolution.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin in 2018, Ms. Coad was an intellectual property litigation associate at Greenberg Traurig, LLP in Washington, D.C. 

Ms. Coad also has experience in the government sector. Before entering private practice, Ms. Coad was a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia where she prosecuted serious criminal misdemeanor offenses including drug possession, assault, unlawful entry, theft, destruction of property, and solicitation. During her tenure, Ms. Coad tried over twenty bench trials. She also managed a heavy case load and represented the U.S. in evidentiary hearings, sentencing hearings, including plea negotiations, arraignments, and status conferences.

During law school, Ms. Coad was selected as a judicial intern with Judge Ronald Clark in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Recognition

Ms. Coad was selected as a “Rising Star” (2019-2021) by Super Lawyers as a top rated intellectual property litigator in Washington, D.C.

During law school, Ms. Coad was a competitor in the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition for trademark and unfair competition law. She was also served as chair of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association.

As an undergraduate, Ms. Coad was the recipient of the Dr. Pepper/Lazenby Award in recognition of exceptional work within the Southern Methodist University Department of Chemistry.
