Mr. Devine has represented corporations, officers, directors, and other entities and individuals in a wide range of litigation matters, including criminal prosecutions for securities fraud, conspiracy, and insider trading, civil class actions alleging violations of federal and state securities laws, and shareholder derivative lawsuits. He has also represented clients in connection with internal and government investigations, primarily investigations by the SEC and Department of Justice into sophisticated accounting and disclosure issues. Mr. Devine also has extensive experience in a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract, fraud and intellectual property disputes.
Mr. Devine’s clients and cases have spanned a diverse mix of industries (mortgage banking, financial services, energy, infrastructure, entertainment) and all phases of litigation (fact investigation, pre-trial motion practice, discovery, trial, appeal). He has also advised clients on risk assessment, developed strategies for achieving business goals without litigation, and participated in the negotiation of favorable settlements.
Mr. Devine is a member of the Boston Bar Association.
Prior to joining Goodwin, Mr. Devine was an associate in the Century City, California office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP. While there, he represented former Enron Corp. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Skilling in his federal criminal trial and on appeal.
