- Patrick McKillen v Misland (Cyprus) Limited and Ors: Secured victory for Sir Frederick Barclay and Sir David Barclay and their associated companies in a number of complex high value and high profile cases (including appeals) concerning the ownership of three landmark hotels: Claridges, The Connaught and the Berkeley. The disputes concerned numerous allegations including breaches of director duties, shadow and de facto director issues, conspiracy, various beaches of a shareholders’ agreement and articles of association and an unfair prejudice petition.*
- It is now one of the leading cases on contractual interpretation, pre-emption provisions and what constitutes a transfer of shares.
- HMRC v Ingenious Media advised Ingenious media in its Tax Tribunal proceedings regarding the tax treatment of certain partnerships’ complex film financing arrangements. Short-listed for both Legal Business’ and The Lawyer Awards litigation team of the year 2017 for this matter and Ms. Field was “highly commended” by the former for this dispute.*
- Lehman Brothers International (Europe) v Lehman Brothers Finance lead advisor for Lehman Brothers on a multi-billion dollar dispute concerning the unwinding of intra-group structures on the insolvency of Lehman Brothers. The case concerned complex matters of legal and beneficial title in securities. Named by The Lawyer as a Top 10 case.*
- A PE fund on issues regarding sellers’ misrepresentations and breaches of an SPA prior to a closing worth hundreds of millions and similar issues on other matters post-closing.*
- A PE fund on numerous contentious matters including exiting founding members, a shareholder and director dispute and arbitrations in relation to an SPA.*
- A PE fund defending allegations of misrepresentations (including fraudulent misrepresentations) in relation to a sale.*
- A PE fund on numerous disputes predominantly concerning issues of breaches of SPAs and shareholder agreements and breach of warranty claims each worth tens of millions.*
- A fund in relation to an application to the Take Over Panel regarding the price at which an entity should be required to make an offer to the holders of other shares in Sky following an acquisition.*
- Facebook regarding copyright and defamation issues.*
- Sofa Workshop v Sofa Works secured victory for Sofa Workshop in a trade mark and passing off dispute against Sofa Works.*
- iTunes, Yahoo!, AOL, RealNetworks, MusicNet, Naptser and Sony v Mechanical Copyright Protection Society Limited and Performing Rights Society Limited acting for seven online music providers in the Copyright Tribunal regarding online music licensing rights.*
- An investment bank in relation to a major breach of confidential information and copyright.*
- Premier Foods in respect of what was then the UK’s largest ever product recall (in relation to numerous regulatory investigations and the resulting commercial disputes).*
- AIG UK in respect of a SFO and FCA investigation into its insurance products.*
- Kaupthing Bank various proceedings on behalf of Kaupthing Bank including judicial review proceedings against the Treasury, jurisdiction disputes and seeking stays of various proceedings based on recognition of Kaupthing’s winding up.*
- Pharmaceutical client in respect of arbitrations regarding various licensing disputes.*
